December update. Merry Xmas from Roda Golf!

admin December 15th, 2010

Hi to all our regular visitors, it has been a little while since our last update, not a huge amount of news in the last couple of months, but what news there is just happens to be good news.

Resales market picking up!

Firstly the resale’s office next to the mini supermarket has now closed down, and Roda Golf themselves are officially back in the business of selling houses and actively looking for new buyers (of which there seems to be plenty about right now). Vanessa Carrascal and Mark Ellis are now running the new and improved sales team and can now be found in the original sales office outside the main entrance. They’ll be more than happy to help in any way possible regarding purchasing new property at Roda Golf and Beach Resort.

Please remember you can also contact us directly at info@calidainternationalproperties.co.uk and we will be able to help you find that perfect property and at the right price, we are always the first to have access to never before released properties and exclusive prices, there has never been a better time to consider buying on Roda Golf, particularly with prices at an all time low and the weakened Euro, so please contact us now to see how best we can help.

We also have a comprehensive list of resale properties. The enquiries are starting to come in thick and fast after what has been a tough couple of years, so if you are seriously looking for your new home in the sun, please contact us as soon as possible. We are happy to provide informal advice over the telephone or here at Roda Golf.

We are also looking to add to our list of properties, so if you are considering selling your property, please contact us first, we will be happy to market your property and we do not charge a penny unless we sell your property for you. Please e-mail us and we will be happy to provide a realistic valuation for your property and advertise it on our websites.

The Roda Golf Society

The Roda Golf Society is now well and truly up and running! The inaugural competition was held at El Valle Golf course and what a fabulous first competition turnout it was! The Christmas golf extravaganza was held at Roda Golf with the after golf Christmas dinner being held at La Diva restaurant in the 525 Plaza.

There was nearly sixty people including wives and partners, and it was a superb day all round, a special thank you must go to Logan Nayager and his committee of Danny and John, I am sure there were others helping and it was a fantastic event. The evening was a great success and it was great to catch up with some old friends and meet some new ones, if you are not a member of the Roda Society and you would like to join, please contact Logan Nayager at lnayager@hotmail.com for further information.

RodaFM going from strength to strength

RodaFM the Property Management and Rentals company who are full time on site at Roda Golf have enjoyed a fantastic year and have now grown to the extent that they now have offices on site and can be found near the entrance at Roda Golf next to the technical department.

RodaFM are now offering many more services, and this will benefit all owners and full time residents. We are very happy to work with this company, and indeed all approved agents and management companies in the area. We’d like to wish RodaFM every success in their new offices, and continued growth and success in 2011.

Please see a list of services RodaFM are now able to provide from January 2011 (download pdf)

New Year’s Eve Party!

Finally, there is a New Years Eve party to be held at the Roda Golf clubhouse, anybody interested should contact Graham Sanders at graham@sandersuk.com for more information. I have attended the party for the last two years, and have had a superb evening on both occasions. I hope to see you there this year.

If there is anything you would like to see on this information web site exclusively for Roda Golf or if we can be of any help or assistance regarding any aspect of Roda Golf, please do not hesitate to get in touch, we hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous new year, see you all in 2011!

More news about Murcia International Airport!

admin November 23rd, 2010

Hi all. The Winter months may be closing in (somewhat later than our friends in the UK!) but there’s still plenty to be excited about here in Murcia! We are starting to see more images and details emerging from the – rapidly emerging – Corvera International Airport! Below you can see a small gallery of shots we’ve assembled. the Spanish press is talking about flights in 2011!

So before San Javier, or Alicante, we will have our own fully International airport ready to whizz us to the USA or Caribbean…or, maybe better, whizz you are your guests here to wonderful Murcia for a visit!

This is not a political or electoral promise. The airport will become a reality in 2011 thanks to the Competition Commission of the European Union, who gave the green light to guarantee 200 million euros for the project. Money enough to finish construction.

José Ballesta the Minister of Public Works, announced that the first plane to land at Corvera will be towards the end of next year because the airport is already finished, while explaining that the decision in Brussels has been favourable because the endorsement was “not incompatible” with international law.

The airport will be a cornerstone for growth in the whole region, open up international business opportunities, boost tourism and will offer employment to 20,000 people!

The work plan includes four main priorities: The passenger terminal; The control tower and other buildings; Facilities (beacons etc.) and civil construction (airfields or drainage systems etc).

José Ballesta said are “many” airlines interested in operating at the airport, but these are subject to a confidentiality agreement, and will not become public until shortly before the airport becomes operational.

On top of all this, new access from the A-30 to the Corvera International Airport is well under construction. These works are planned to be finished before the end of the year.

You will be able to get more info very soon through the official web page which is now under construction.

As if all that were not enough, the high speed rail link (AVE) between Madrid and Cartagena will have a station at Corvera airport! This infrastructure is planned to be finished in 2014. We really are going to be on the map!

We are sure you will share our enthusiasm for this news. It can mean nothing else but increased interest in our area, business opportunities, and with news of the Paramount theme park – the good times are set to roll!

Paramount theme park coming to Alhama

admin October 20th, 2010

Great news today all! Simply Networking, are carrying a story – which we repeat below – that we are all going to be very happy about!

The Spanish daily newspaper, La Verdad, are today claiming that Alhama has been chosen “by the region” as the location for the Paramount Theme Park in Murcia.

They say that the meeting held on Wednesday evening about which we reported yesterday, was decisive, “as far as this newspaper has been able to ascertain” and they say that there are just minor details to confirm.

They say that the Fuente Alamo option is being left on pending in case problems arise with Alhama, and say that a pre-agreement has been reached with the banks.

The banks have apparently agreed on an option to buy 3.5 million square meters of land on the site of Condado de Alham II, taken by the banks in lieu of payment of debts from the Polaris World development company.( See previous stories for all the details.)

Apparently the deal will be for the land purchase to go through within the space of one year.

Now what we have to be careful about is that this is all hearsay, and yesterday both Salvador Marin who heads up the government department handling the negotiations, and Jesus Samper himself both said that secrecy is still of the utmost importance, that nothing is final and they are still considering a number of options.

Both were adamant yesterday that there were still many details to finalise before an announcement would be made.

The rest of the La Verdad article just recycles information which has already been reported many times, so is of little consequence, and it does seem a little indiscreet to be putting out this headline when nothing is final, and its’ certainly strange to see this headline on the morning on which Samper is in front of the courts giving evidence in the Murcia corruption case, in which his developments in Murcia are implicated. Mind you, as we’ve said before, putting out a headline with positive news detracts from the implications of the corruption case, and La Verdad are plump and well fed due to the considerable support they receive from government funded “businesses” the councils and the Cajas, who pay for most of the arts activities in the region, so it’s not surprising.

They are the only daily to have this “inside information” and nobody else is reporting anything.

Yesterday Salvador Marin was defensive of Samper, saying that he was just one of a number of people working on the Paramount project and that the outcome of the court hearings today would have little influence on the future of the Paramount project.

It’s difficult to see how this is the case, however, when Santa Monica are the major capital shareholder and the Licensees for the Paramount brand marketing.

It’s also important to take into consideration that the license period has been granted for one year to enable the project to be pulled together and will only be finalised once the blessing of paramount licensing has been given to the final proposals, hence the period of a one year option to purchase the land which is what La Verdad are claiming has been agreed, albeit “with a few minor details still to resolve.”

Samper was keen to stress that nobody from Paramount had been in touch with him reference his implication in the Murcia corruption case, which again, does seem strange as Paramount is keen to maintain a squeaky clean image, but then again, this corruption investigation has been ongoing for more than a year, so it seems unlikely that Paramount would have granted him a licensing agreement without having carried out extensive background checks beforehand.

Anyway, nothing will be official until somebody makes a formal announcement, but again, what is peculiar is the headline announcing that the “region” has selected Alhama, when the region is only supposed to be stumping up a token amount of investment and the project is supposedly being driven by Samper and Santa Monica Investments.

We’ll just have to wait for a formal announcement.

Paramount arrive in Spain, Airport flying!

admin September 18th, 2010

We have some fantastic news this month – some of the good news we have all been waiting for – and it has certainly got everybody talking!

Corvera airport

Firstly the regional government in Murcia have now confirmed that the new International Airport at Corvera will be open sometime in 2011!. There are currently over five hundred people working on the airport “around the clock” in three shifts.

The terminal building and the control tower are now progressing at lightning speed, and the new 3.5 metre glass dome for the top of the control tower is just about to be installed. Once open, the new international airport at Corvera is expected to have at least 16 flights per day initially! Fantastic news, particularly for Corvera owners wanting to rent their property just three minutes from the airport.

There has been concern over the future of San Javier airport as a result of the new airport at Corvera, this should no longer be a concern as airport operator AENA have just announced further investment at San Javier, this is on top of all the recent improvements over the last 18 months. We are confident that San Javier airport will not only continue to provide the current invaluable service to the coastal region of Murcia, but we expect to see passenger numbers grow and offer even more flights in the coming months and years.

Paramount are on the way!

You would think that was enough good news for now, but last week the newspapers and radio stations were “buzzing” with the news that Paramount studios do indeed have plans to build a theme park and film studios in the Murcia region and that work is to commence imminently.

It has been announced that Paramount Studios intends to pursue its ambition to create Spain’s largest theme park in the Spanish region of Murcia. The park planned will rival Disneyland Paris and attract around 3 million visitors per year!

Paramount Pictures said on Friday it has reached a deal to open its first theme park in Europe in Spain, the world’s third most visited country, which will create thousands of jobs as well as create a need for an additional 20,000 hotel beds.

This development will undoubtedly create interest in property in the Murcia region. It is likely that rental returns will increase dramatically for property owners on the already popular Roda Golf and Beach Resort and now Corvera Golf and Country Club. The lure of an American style theme park, world-class golf courses, and an average temperature of 21 degrees will bring visitors from all over Europe to the region.

This is amazing news for the region of Murcia, but also for the very best resorts in the area of Roda Golf and Corvera Golf, it was recently reported that there are more people buying and completing the purchases of their properties in Murcia than any other region, so this latest news can only strengthen that position that Murcia is now the number one region in Spain.

With house prices now very attractive and with a much stronger pound, there has never been a better time to purchase your new property on the stunning Costa Calida in the region of Murcia, please come and visit us here at www.calidainternationalproperties.co.uk for the very best properties available and at the very best prices, or for further information please e-mail us directly

Roda Sports facilities and Phase 4 progress

admin June 26th, 2009

Hi everybody, apologies for the delay in updating the only information web site for Roda Golf and Beach Resort. We have been very busy providing updates for the sister resort at Corvera Golf and Country Club which is making fantastic progress.

The Summer is well and truly here – and wow is it hot! We have some great news and photos to accompany the report on the new sports facilities and phase 4 apartments.

Firstly the new Sports facilities. We have taken some great new pictures showing the new tennis court, the paddle tennis courts (mixture of squash and tennis played with large paddle bats and tennis balls), the multi purpose sports pitch with basket ball courts and hoops, and soccer pitch with goals.

All are now completed along with the new access road and car park facilities. There are changing rooms along with a children’s play area and lots of lovely landscaping, all over looking the signature hole – The par 3 7th to the island green, with great views across the lake to the clubhouse.

It all looks absolutely fabulous and will be ready for use 1st July, although it might be a bit warm for all that exercise! “Mad dogs and Englishmen” springs to mind (along with the occasional Welshman)

The Phase 4 apartments are well under construction and not much to report here other than to say just look at the photos, the progress is amazing and it looks different everyday, there are 3 permanent cranes as well as a number of smaller ones, concrete trucks in and out all day as well as about fifty guys working around the clock.

Phase 4 is really starting to look tremendous and we all expect this phase to be fantastic. It enjoys the lowest density of building on the resort at Roda Golf as well as the much awaited phase 4 “Brisa” style apartments. Yes, there has been quite a big delay, but it is going to be worth the wait of that we are sure.

Finally, there have been some dramatic and fantastic changes and improvements at the Roda Golf Beach Club and we will have an update with photos very soon, it is now open and already some very positive comments have been forwarded to us.

I hope you enjoy this latest report with photos, all feedback greatly appreciated, please also pay particular attention to our new Roda Golf services brochure which you can download below. We are happy to help with every aspect of your completion of your new property at Roda Golf or to provide a professional management service with rentals if you are already an owner at Murcia’s newest and best golf resort here at Roda Golf and Beach Resort!

We’ll be back in a week or two with another update, and we have a small video of Phase 4 construction too!

Happy Summer everyone – Stuart Thomas – Calida International Properties

Phase 4 – Villas handing over/apartments commencing!

admin March 24th, 2009

Welcome to this very exciting news update. We are very happy to be able to announce that work has finally started on the phase 4 apartments. All of the phase 4 villa’s are now completed and are currently in the process of being handed over to the owners. We are showing two galleries below. The first shows the work being carried out – as we speak – on the apartments, whilst the other shows the completed gardens at the “back” of the Phase 4 villas, and some views of the course on and around the 15th fairway.

With regards to the phase 4 apartments, the technical staff have been working feverishly all week marking out the plots and directing the heavy plant. Most of the work that is currently being done is earth moving and extending the existing footings and locations for the foundations. Whilst we were photographing the site, we saw surveyors taking measurements and all together a large amount of activity.

You will see from the photos attached that there are some diggers and lorries on site, these are paving the way for the cranes and the full work force, all of the area for phase 4 has been prepared and actual construction work is obviously imminent, I think you will all agree this is excellent news.

The other piece of fantastic news is that there is now a new shop open at Roda Golf, the new mini market is located next to the Roda Golf sales office where the old bar and restaurant was located, you can now get your daily newspapers, plenty of beers and wines as well as fresh bread, milk, all your usual groceries, chocolates and walkers crisps, as well as good range of necessities and toiletries.

We will have course keep on top of the situation and as soon as any other developments take place in the area, you will be the first to know!

All comments and enquiries are very welcome for this and any other news item.

Breaking news! Shopping centre & Sports facilities

admin February 6th, 2009

And the good news keeps on coming! We received this direct from Roda Golf. What great news this is! Finally positive news about not only the sporting facilities, but also the Roda shopping centre! Well, we’ll leave it for them to explain. The official communication follows:

——————————————————————————————–

Dear all,

It is with great pleasure that we would like to inform you of some exciting new developments that will be unfolding at Roda Golf & Beach Resort in the near future.
Firstly, we are improving access to the golf course, shop and restaurant, by commencing work on a brand new easy-access parking area conveniently situated next to the putting green and hole 9.

Alongside the new parking area, work is about to get underway on the construction of our new sporting facilities, which on completion will enable you to enjoy tennis and paddle tennis on dedicated courts, as well as a range of sports including basketball and five-a-side football on the new multi-sports court. Located opposite the hole 7 lake in a private lot within the complex, these new facilities are expected to be completed by this summer.

In addition, we are currently in the final stages of negotiation with a number of partners with regard to construction of the new shopping centre and work is expected to begin shortly.

For more information about any of the projects listed above, please don’t hesitate to contact our Customer Services team.

Best wishes,

Eating in and around Roda Golf. Some local restaurants.

admin July 10th, 2008

Welcome to our latest feature, a restaurant guide of all our favourite restaurants in Los Alcazares, near to Roda Golf and Beach Resort. You may have a few of your own not mentioned here, if you would like us to add any, please just let us know. We’d like to stress that we are not affiliated with any of these restaurants! We just like to eat in them :)

We are going to start off with the Wok Buffet, which is just outside Roda Golf, opposite the tourist information centre on the main road in to Roda Golf. The Wok Buffet is a great “value for money” restaurant and is ideal for large families, at just 8.95 euros to eat all you like, it is quite a reasonably priced night out – please remember drinks cost extra.

The restaurant is very clean and spacious and the food is superb, with a huge choice of starters and then 9 different flavours of sauce for your main course, which they cook in front of you. There really is something here for everybody, with meat, fish, seafood, salads and a wide choice of fruit and vegetables, also a great selection of desserts, you will not be disappointed.

La Diva in the 525 hotel plaza, (525 hotel) near to Los Alcazares is a great restaurant with a comprehensive menu and a fantastic selection of fine wines. The food here is superb and there is a great atmosphere, ideal for romantic nights for the couples, and perfect for those special celebrations Full a-la-carte menu available.

For a traditional Spanish evening, and great steaks and meat options, El Patio 2 is the place to be. It’s opposite the Mercadona near the 525 hotel plaza, just about a 20 minute walk from Roda Golf. This wonderful restaurant has about the biggest in-door barbecue we have ever seen! The service is great and the food, whilst very simple, is of a very high standard and great quality. You must try the ox steak cooked on a hot stone at your table!

Roblemar (link) is a great fish and seafood restaurant located near “the arches” close to the motorway junction. You can select your fresh fish from a huge selection on the display table, and the tapas here are superb. Roblemar is very popular with the local Spanish people because the food is so good, particularly the seafood. The restaurant can get very busy, particularly in summer, it is advisable to book in advance, very little English is spoken here, so get practising your Spanish folks!

For the good old traditional English breakfast, we are happy recommend 3 restaurants in the 525 hotel plaza, “Henry’s bar” has just started cooking in the mornings and the breakfast and snacks are great. “Penny Farthing” has a great menu for breakfast and lunch, and the food is of a very high quality. Finally “The Pastie Shack” provides great food and good service, great “take out” food from the Pastie Shack, the pasties, pies and sausage rolls are lovely, with some great traditional fillings.

There is a new restaurant, located near the Penny Farthing, and is owned by the same people who own Penny Farthing. Rosalinds is a very nice restaurant with a great menu, the food is very good, if a little elaborate. This restaurant is a little expensive but is in a stunning location, particularly if you can get a table on the terrace over looking the plaza. Great service with very friendly staff, definitely worth a visit.

Of course we must not forget the new Clubhouse at Roda Golf. This really is a fantastic place to eat, there is a very comprehensive menu. The service, for the most part, is very good and the location on the terrace with views over the golf course and the floodlit driving range is superb. Great food, very friendly staff, and great location, what more could you ask for?

If you are spending the day at the beach, there are a number of small bars and restaurants located right on the beach which offer excellent lunch time menus and snacks including great selections of tapas. The food and the drinks are very cheap at these places, but the quality of the food is generally very good.

Opposite the Roblemar restaurant, there is a fantastic pizza restaurant, La Sombra (the shade) this place has an enormous selection of pizza’s and one of our particular favourites is the kebab pizza, sounds awful I know, but it really is an awesome pizza. There are about 25 different choices of pizza all freshly cooked and it makes this place well worth a visit. It is also very reasonably priced.

There are lots of other great eating establishments in the area, too many to mention, but we hope you enjoy trying out the ones listed here, please remember a 10% minimum gratuity will be expected, 15% if the service was very good.

Have a great holiday at the Roda Golf and Beach Resort in Murcia on the Costa Calida.

Roda Golf Ryder Cup June 7th and 8th!

admin June 11th, 2008

Roda Golf has staged it’s very own Ryder cup over the weekend of June 7th and 8th!

Don’t get carried away… whilst it was a European team vs a British team, we did not see Severiano Ballesteros or Jose Maria Olazabal out there! There was however some fantastic golf played and even though the weather wasn’t the best, it was a tremendous spectacle for all who turned out to enjoy the event.

The Roda Golf course came in for yet more plaudits with everybody loving the golf course and the facilities. One of the golf professionals from a nearby course commented that whilst Roda is not the most difficult course in the region (it was never meant to be) it was certainly the nicest looking and the best kept, wow! praise indeed for a golf course less than two years old!

You can view the brand new 360 degree virtual feature at www.rodagolf.com and click on the golf course, English is available at this site, just click on the flag. This is a fantastic feature and well done to Calidona for providing it, if you have not visited the site and seen this feature, you in for a treat.

The clubhouse at Roda Golf and the restaurant was the real winner. The food was fantastic, and even the service was “spot on”. There has been some small level of criticism levelled at the staff concerning the service, however some new, and might I say excellent, staff have now joined the team and everything at Roda is now as you would expect from a 5 star resort.

Roda Golf are now offering night time practice facilities with the driving range now being floodlit, the range is open until 11.00pm. I bet the wives (or golfing widows) will be delighted to hear of this!

The mood and general atmosphere over the weekend at Roda Golf was awesome, residents and visitors alike all mingled together with the golfers and everybody had a great time.
With plenty more facilities still to come and lots more competitions due this year, the future promises to be very exciting at Roda Golf and Beach Resort.
